It is June 1868. The prophet Te Kooti and three hundred converts to his Ringatu religion have escaped from the Chatham Islands and landed in Poverty Bay on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The Government hurriedly dispatches forces to meet this threat to the peace and stability of the region.
