This wonderful children’s book tells the true remarkable story of Le Quesnoy, a small town in northern France which was liberated by New Zealand soldiers during World War I.

The fortified town of Le Quesnoy had been taken over by the German army early in the war and had remained within its walls for four long years. In November 1918, the town was liberated thanks to the brave actions of the New Zealand soldiers, with not a single civilian life lost.  The story of Le Quesnoy has become one of the most famous in New Zealand military history and the strong relationship between Le Quesnoy and New Zealand continues to this day.
