The history inclues: the aiakto War of 1863-64; the Cambridge, Te Awamutu and Hamilton Cavalry Volunteers; Waikato Troopers in the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902 and the First World War 1914-19, including the Gallipoli, Sinai and Paleestine campaigns; The build up to and the Second World War 1939-45, including a history of the Divisional Calvary during the Second World War; Post-war gistroy and recent peace-keeping roles. The book covers extensively both war and peacetime activites of the Waiakto Mounted Rifles, the longest-serving military unit in New Zealand. The Waikato mounted Rifles Unit is still in existence today and is only Army unit based in the Waikato.
